GLENDALE, NY — New York & Atlantic Railway (NYA), the region’s short line rail freight line, recently hosted New York State Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages at its Fresh Pond rail yard in Glendale, NY, to discuss the economic and environmental benefits of moving goods by rail throughout the New York metropolitan area.
Other topics focused on NYA’s safety record and collaborative efforts in training with the region’s public safety agencies, including the FDNY, NYPD and various Long Island volunteer fire departments. Mr. Taylor spoke of good corporate citizenship and NYA’s support of several community-based organizations. He also underscored NYA’s commitment to diversifying its workforce, training, and recruitment efforts, reinforcing its culture of promoting from within, and its dedication to workplace safety.
NYA President Marlon Taylor led a tour of the rail facility for the Assemblywoman, whose district includes the communities of Valley Stream, North Valley Stream, Elmont, South Valley Stream, South Floral Park, Floral Park, the Village of Bellerose, Bellerose Terrace, North Woodmere, Stewart Manor, and parts of Franklin Square.
“A single NYA freight train can greatly reduce truck traffic and overall congestion, which will help lessen the stress on our local roadways and related infrastructure,” explained Mr. Taylor. “Less trucks mean reduced greenhouse gas emissions, which improve regional air quality and help achieve New York State’s aggressive carbon reduction goals.”
